Dallas Cowboys
It’s difficult to win when nearly forty percent of your salary cap is on the Injury Reserve List, but nevertheless, after an embarrassing 25-3 loss to the Washington Football Team, the Cowboys are in heap of trouble.
America’s Team currently sits with a 2-5 record, good for second-to-last place in the worst division in the NFL, the NFC East.
Needless to say, discontent is brewing among Cowboy players with the new coaching staff.
“Totally unprepared. They don’t teach. They just aren’t good at their jobs,” an unnamed player told CBS Sports.
First year head coach Mike McCarthy was brought into Dallas with the hope that he would change the mediocre culture that had clouded the organization during Jason Garrett’s tenure. That hasn’t happened.
However, McCarthy’s Cowboys have reached a major milestone this season.
According to CBS Sports, under McCarthy, the Cowboys became the first NFL team to allow 20+ points in the first half of six straight games. That puts them on pace to break the 1981 Baltimore Colts’ NFL record (533 points) for points allowed, per CBS Sports.
Yes, losing Dak Prescott was a huge blow to the team. But the Cowboys were already struggling when Prescott was in the starting lineup. For one, their offense can’t protect the football.
According to ESPN, the Cowboys have the worst turnover ratio across the NFL. Throughout this season, the Cowboys have given the ball away a league-leading sixteen times in the form of nine fumbles and seven interceptions, per ESPN.
This season’s frustration and discontent has boiled over to Jerry Jones, the Cowboys’ owner and general manager.
During his weekly radio appearance on Shan & R.J. Show on 105.3 The Fan, Jones told host Shan Shariff to “shut up” when discussing the team’s recent struggles. Jones later apologized for his lack of tactful comments.
Aside from his rude remark, Jones did have this to say about McCarthy: Mike McCarthy is the coach is because he's been through it," Jones said. "If I’m going to hire a coach that will work through this for the betterment for the rest of the year and for what’s in the future, I’ve got my man.”
Hmm.. sounds pretty familiar to when Garrett was the head coach doesn’t it Cowboys fans? Either way, it’s time to pack it up and go home. Cowboys, y’all are fired!
