National League Players Who Are Getting Snubbed from 2021 All Star Game

As Phase 1 of the MLB All Star Ballot closes tomorrow, June 24, here are players from the National League who are getting snubbed:

1B- Rhys Hoskins, Philadelphia Phillies

While Hoskins doesn’t have the greatest batting average (.240), he has slugged 16 home runs and driven in 43 runs— more than the Chicago Cubs’ Anthony Rizzo (9 HR, 31 RBI) who currently holds third place in voting and Los Angeles Dodgers’ Max Muncy (14 HR, 33 RBI) who currently is slated as the starter.

2B- Ryan McMahon, Colorado Rockies

McMahon has proven he can hit for power as he currently leads all National League second basemen in home runs (16) and only trails Atlanta Braves’ Ozzie Albies in Runs Batted In by one. Sure McMahon doesn’t have the average that current second place holder Adam Frazier has or the flashiness of switch-hitting Albies, but it just feels wrong to snub the Colorado crowd of the opportunity to watch one of their own play in the All Star Game.

SS- Brandon Crawford, San Francisco Giants

Crawford is a severely underrated shortstop and a tremendous defender. Now he has the offensive stats to compliment his stellar defense— .258 Avg., 16 HR, 48 RBI. Yes, Tatis Jr. should undoubtedly be the starter, but Crawford has quietly put up better numbers than the Chicago Cubs’ Javier Baez (.226 Avg., 16 HR, 45 RBI) and far greater numbers than the Dodgers’ Corey Seager (.265 Avg., 4 HR, 22 RBI). Currently Baez holds second place while Seager is in third.

3B- Manny Machado, San Diego Padres

Both Kris Bryant and Nolan Arenado have feasted on opposing pitchers, but that doesn’t mean Machado can’t sneak into the roster. Machado’s 47 RBI are second among third basemen in the National League and trails Dodgers’ Justin Turner by one home run. On the defensive side, Machado is smooth as they come. However, he does tend to rub fans the wrong way so it will be interesting to see if fans give him a chance.

Catcher- J.T. Realmuto, Philadelphia Phillies

Realmuto is a solid defender who can control a pitching staff well, possesses soft hands and can throw runners out with ease. Though he doesn’t have the offensive prowess like that of the Giants’ Buster Posey, Realmuto’s 29 RBIs and .851 OPS are greater than the Cubs’ Wilson Contreras who currently holds third place in the standings.

OF- Kyle Schwarber, Washington Nationals

Schwarber is one of the league’s hottest hitters right now, but unfortunately isn’t receiving any love from the fans. Schwarber’s 19 HR and 45 RBI are greater than Joc Pederson, Bryce Harper and Tyler O’Neill all who hold the last three spots in the standings. Sure his defense isn’t great, but the National League could use his bat off the bench.

OF- Bryan Reynolds, Pittsburgh Pirates

Unfortunately, Reynolds is stuck playing for one of the worst teams in the National League so he doesn’t get the appreciation he deserves. Yet, Reynolds has quietly racked up a solid season with a .306 Avg., 12 HR, 38 RBI. Also, Reynolds’ .924 OPS ranks sixth among National League outfielders that are on the ballot.

OF- Andrew McCutchen, Philadelphia Phillies

Though McCutchen’s batting average is in danger of falling bellow the Mendoza Line (.228), the Phillies’ outfielder has slugged for 13 HR and driven in 39 runs. Though he hasn’t particularly had a hot start to the season, McCutchen’s numbers are perhaps good enough to make it past the first phase of the voting.
