A Letter to Dallas Cowboy Fans: This Is Still Not the Cowboys’ Year

Hold your horses Cowboy fans- pun intended. It’s way too early in the season for y’all to be claiming that this is your year. Yet again, it would be insane for us to expect otherwise as you seem to make the same claim every season. Therefore, we’ll just assume that you do so just to spite other National Football League teams.

Anyway, yes, the Cowboys are 3-1 and playing great football and head coach Mike McCarthy seems to have turned things around over in Jerry’s World. But, the Cowboys are still the Cowboys. The minute y’all get excited, they’ll break your heart and crush your hopes and dreams without thinking twice about it.

It’s the same narrative every year and by now, y’all should have learned y’all’s lesson. But again, we admire your loyalty to a team that continuously hands out empty promises and has little concern for y’all’s emotional well being during football season.

We admire Dak Prescott’s determination and perseverance- it isn’t easy to come back from an injury and perform at a top level in the NFL. Ezekiel Elliott is averaging roughly 85 rushing yards per game and finally adding value to y’all’s running game and y’all are probably starting to think that he is worth every penny that Jerry paid him. The defense still needs work, but it can make stops when needed. Might we add, we still haven’t forgotten how y’all almost beat the GOAT, Tom Brady, on Thursday Night Football. Furthermore, y’all recently broke the Carolina Panthers’ undefeated streak.

Yes, that is all true and y’all must be ecstatic and pleased with the team’s performance on the gridiron. But the Cowboys are still the Cowboys.

Y’all’s division, the NFC East, is arguably one of the weakest in the NFL but somehow it’s always competitive. The Eagles are still trying to figure it out but are sneaky good. The Giants are still busy trying to instill a blue-collar culture and get in people’s faces, but Daniel Jones just had a breakout game against the New Orleans Saints. Finally, The Washington Football Team is 2-2 and has a strong defensive line that can seriously weaken y’alls running game and pressure Dak.

Which is why y’all should remain humble; especially since you have a tendency to lose crucial division games, because, the Cowboys are still the Cowboys.

We’re only a month into the season; a lot can happen in the next three months or so. Mind you, Prescott suffered a season-ending injury in Week 5 last season. No, we don’t wish any evil on y’all or on Prescott- again we admire his work ethic, leadership and perseverance- but this is just a little reminder to come down to planet Earth for a little longer. Nothing is set in stone, and ANYTHING can happen, because the Cowboys are still the Cowboys.

So before y’all start parading around and yelling “This is our year” or “Super Bowl Champs” like you do every season, take a step back and see the bigger picture. In fact, we would advise you not to get too excited until the Cowboys actually are standing on the podium holding the Vince Lombardi trophy on Super Bowl Sunday; because the Cowboys are still the Cowboys.

Take our advice with a grain of salt or as you so please. Just wanted to share this with y’all out of the kindness of our hearts because we would hate to see y’all’s hearts broken at the end of the season once again; because the Cowboys are still the Cowboys. Good luck the rest of the way and if y’all need some shoulders to cry on at the end of the season, you know where to find us. Much love.
